Acquisition of the Tanita MC 780 MA body composition analyser device (2015, TANITA corporation, Japan) uses data obtained from two types of resistance offered by the body to an electrical stimulus: on the one hand, reactive resistance or reactance (associated with the cell membrane) and on the other hand, resistive resistance (associated with intra- and extra-cellular fluid). The combination of these two types of resistance is known as impedance or bioimpedance, requiring different equations to estimate body composition from this data.
